  • Wallcoverings vs. Paint for your Redecorating Project

Posted on February 21, 2014 by in Wallcoverings

One of the main reasons that most of us begin to consider redecorating our homes is because we need a bit of change. More than likely, you’ve been staring at the same old walls every day for the past several years and when you finally take a minute to step back and really look at a particular room, you realize that it’s really not doing anything for you any more – it’s boring. So as you start gathering different ideas for how you can give the room a proper face-lift, keep in mind that what you choose to do with those four walls will have a huge impact on the whole aesthetic of the entire room. That being said, try to focus less on blue vs. yellow for a minute and focus on one more important question: wallpaper or paint?

So many people simply forget that wallpaper is an option and head straight for the paint samples, convinced that it’s the best and fastest choice. Well we can’t argue with the fact that painting your walls will probably be a much quicker process than wallpapering, but that certainly doesn’t mean that it’s the best. First off, hardly anyone can deny the fact that aesthetically speaking, wallpaper is the clear winner. With paint, you just have one color to work with and even if you choose to do an accent wall with another color, it’s still a bunch of walls covered with solid colors.

With custom wallpapering, your options are limitless. Whichever type of pattern you choose, you will instantly add character, warmth and beauty to that room. Paint can of course attempt to replicate these types of effects but at the end of the day, you will find out that it’s impossible for paint to do what wallpaper can.

What’s even more, you may believe that wallpaper is much more expensive than paint, but that’s not really the case when you look at the big picture.  According to an article from the National Guild of Professional Paperhangers, Inc., “the latest Hite Report, developed for The Bell Systems by Jim Hit, lifecycle analysis shows that wallcoverings now last five times longer than paint, under normal usage conditions.” So in the end, you may actually save over 30 percent by simply choosing wallpaper over painting and repainting every couple of years.

With custom wallcovering services from Lucinda’s Interiors, you can step out of the box and bring some excitement back into your walls. We can even create custom draperies to match and tie the entire room together! Just give us a call today to start the brainstorming process and we will get to work on creating something beautifully unique for your home.
