So, you just bought a house that was affordable and in your price range, the only thing you don’t like about it is that your windows are way too small.
Remodeling might not be an option because of things like budgetary constraints or the structure of the house itself. However, you don’t have to remodel or enlarge your windows in order to make them look bigger because using window treatment might just work.
One way that you can make your small windows look taller is by hanging floor length curtains at or near the ceiling. You can install the rod two inches below the ceiling molding, hang the shades just below the curtain rods and avoid raising the bottom of them higher than the top of the window glass.
You can also make your windows look wider by getting a curtain rod that is 60 to 80 percent wider than the window, and that’s including the molding. Take your curtains and hang them across the entire space, or hang stationary panels on either side. This enables the eye to assume the extra fabric on either side of the window is covering more window panes behind it.
Finally, if you want to make your windows look both taller and wider, install an extra-long rod near or at the ceiling. After this is done, hang floor length curtains from the rod with the leading edges overlapping the outside edges of the glass. Put a valance over the top of the panels to fill the extra wall space above the window and you’ll have both wider and taller windows.
